Buy the LS u can always do a VTEC head swap I'd Suggest The B16 Cheap and EZ to get a hold of. Word of warning on the tranny though make sure 2nd and 3rd are'nt grinding if they are just get a B16 or ITR tranny then It will be quick enough to whoop the Buttstangs and Hamaros

An LS swap is cheaper than any of the vtec swaps (except EX). It all depends on what your budget is. You can always go LS vtec. Even though LS doesn't have vtec, it still is pretty torquey though.

I got a B16 of the right gen for my car, once it's in- I'll prolly buy a LS/CRV block and build for boost, I'd say get the 16 and a block later and do the block right, but what works for me may not for you- we all have different goals/funds

ive got a b20 and considerd the b20-vtec. the b20 bottom end wont hold the high revs of a vtec head, unless you build the bottom end up....crank, pistons..etc..etc...as far as going turbo on a b20? the cylinder walls on a b20 bottom end are thinner than an ls bottom, thats why everyone goes with an ls bottom for turbo apps, and applies a vtec head along with it sometimes. if you want all motor power and good torque, the b20 is the way to go.

dont b20 (CRV) blocks have very thin cylinder walls, and arnt really good for high revs is that any good for boost??

ls motor you can probably get between 300-600 depending on the shape that its in b16 tranny will run you usually 300-500 depending on hydro/cable (for that year car you need a hydro tranny) which one it is and the condition. ITR tranny goes for no less than 800-1000 from what i have seen you are also going to need the LS ecu and the motor needs to be OBD-1 if you want it to be a direct plug and play

it wont be to difficult all in all and you wont be out alot with just a factory LS i wouldnt be expecting to start spankin *** yet though you wont be much faster than most D series' with a LS in a hatch, hell my friends LS in his gutted crx with I/H/E bested a 15flat and thats very good for anything purely LS

from what iev heard, the Ls/vtec swap isnt good for building up too high. Adding the GSR head and some bolt-ons will be fine but heavy pressure like turbo, then constant high reving...iev heard horror stories of people throwing rods, crank funkin out on you... i just hear too much about the stock LS bottom end thats enough for me to stay away from it

if you leave it stock, the LS (along with the B20 bottom) arent built to handle. You can always spend the money to build the bottom end... but then again motors that come stock with Vtec normally have a nice, reliable bottom end that can take high revs with high compression and not throw stuff thru your hood

its not that the LS bottom end is unreliable it just wasnt ment to rev to 8k+ like the vtec blocks this is evident by its unfriendly rod stroke ratio's

the LS and B20 are the stump pullers of the honda 4cyl world, they make good torque and alot of it they arent ment to rev to 8500 so when people slap on a vtec head (btw the b16 head flows better than the gs-r head) then you have alot of idiots trying to rev them 8500 or whatever, im not saying it cant be done, it can theres a guy where i live thats been runing his for at least 2 years without problem, but you have to be careful and have the bottom end prepared to take this abuse
