Default Help modding a d16z6 on a budget.

I have a 95 Civic EX with a d16z6 that I drive daily. I didnt plan on modding it since I have my turbo ITR for that, but I ran into some good deals on used parts for it. I have already added a no name short ram intake(free), a DC 4-1 header($40), and an ITR cat back exhaust (from my ITR). I kinda want to toy with the thing and see what I can get out of it. What can I do to it without getting to expensive, or unreliable? I was told that I could switch a couple of parts from a y8 and get a little more power. If so, what could I change? Is there anything else that could be added cheaply? I see used cams for around $100 all the time. Thanks for any help.

What you can do to it without getting too expensive is what you've just done with the few parts you've already aquired. As far as having everything reliable, just do the basic stuff and do your nomal tune-up and oil changes; and what-not.

use the Y8 exhaust manifold. LS throttlebody. You could even use LS rods of you wanted (with mods). Port and Polish it. Cams for sure. Raise the compression in anyway possible (head gasket, milled head etc).

Rock the single cam

use the Y8 cam in your Z6 head, it is a hotter cam then the Z6 cam.

Headwork will make a great improvement.

D16A1 pistons to raise the compression. The LS rods are nice but have to be repinned to work with D series pistons.
