Default b18b1 or b16a2

i have a 99 ex coupe and i want to swap the sohc but i wanna know if i would be better off going for the b16a2 or saving a little money and getting the non vtec integra motor. I will eventually start to build the motor i get but right now im havin trouble with getting money for a motor. so should i save money and get ls motor or save up money and get the b16a2? Open to any suggestions.

I would say get the b18b1.
There is no replacement for displacement.... (except for a bigass turbo).

You could build an LS-vtec and it'd be great all motor.
Or you could throw 10lbs of boost at it, and it'd be a great turbo car.

I personally feel that the b16's are overrated. But my opinion is slightly slanted due to the fact that I have an LS in my hatch.

ps. you might get flamed for starting this thread. not alot of tech involved.

i figured most people would say b16a2 but i guess the b18 has more potential in the long run.

I had trouble deciding on the two a while back, and I went with the B16a. I wish I went with a B18, perhaps B18C GSR, because my B16a feels just like my D16z6. Although B16a VTEC is addicting.

In the end, it comes to what you want to do with your motor: Turbo or N/A, or both. It's personal preferences.

And I've heard on H-T before that on same chassis and driver, B16a will destroy B18B everytime. But don't let the E-racing decide what you want.

theyre almost exactly the same from the start... i have a ls engine in my coupe and i turned a 15.200 at 91.2.. my friend has a JDM B16a in his 98 hatch and he turned a 15.17.. both cars have I/E... but the ls has more potiential and more choices in the long run.. the b16 is also a good turbo engine but it usually will not perform as good as a 1.8 all motor

B18b are cheaper to get than B16a.. go with B16a for now and then when you are bored with it pick up a LS block for cheap and go with LSVTEC.

the b16 is tools, get a b18b1 and throw a b16 or gsr tranny with it. If your staying n/a for a while the only thing your going to get from a b16 is alot of noise at 7 grand. You can't lose with a longer rod.

get the b18b1, i have one in my hatch along with a gizzer tranny and love it. i have plans on boosting it too.

look at it this way, when your boost the **** outta your LS and blow it up, you not going to have to shell out nearly as much money as if you blow up your b16
