Default Thinking about buying '99 EX sedan in 5-speed for my girl?

Just put a deposit on a '99 Civic Sedan EX. 62k on the clock, 5-speed, VTEC 1.6, power tilt and slide roof, ABS, fenders and rear bumper VIN's match. carfax is good. Got teh guy down to $9,000 even. Sound like a good deal I am taking it to a local Honda only shop to have them put it on the lift. Any weak points I should look for in this series?

Sounds a little expensive, definitely being 4 door but the mileage looks really good. If its not to late and you wanna sacrifice some space for looks, find a civic coupe.

it sounds like an ok deal if the car is in extremely good shape (i.e. exterior is perfect and you can eat off of the interior)

If it's in great shape I don't think it's that bad a deal at all. Mileage is good, I got over 90K on my 98 already. Sedan is alright as long as it's 5-speed! Sport sedans & wagons are all the rage these days it seems...

Default Bought it for $8,300

My girl and I just purchased the ’99 Civic EX sedan, 5-speed, ABS, clean carfax, with 62k on the clockwe talked him down some more to $8,300 at a stealership. It is a little louder than most stock Civics in the engine bay. A Honda specialist says it is either the bearings on A/C’s tensioner pulley or the nut on the shaft of the pulley is to tight. I took the power steering pump, and belt off and used a serpentine belt tool and it BROKE while trying to loosen the nut on the A/C tensioner pulley! I soaked the bearings of the tensioner with WD-40 but it was only quite for like 5 min. Is this a common problem with the 1.6 VTEC/6th gen Civic with A/C?? Thanks for your help. It is REAL CLEAN except for a light rear drivers fender bender that was fixed OK by a body shop. Also has a KILLER stero in it. When I change the coolant and the manual tranny fluid what should I use? I am going to change the power steering fluid also. Plugs would be a good idea what kind, wires look good.

I took the power steering belt off and it sure looked like a flat ribbed belt to me??? I know it has seperate belts for each assc. but they are flat ribbed belts?
Another Honda dealer just printed out service bulletin # 00-003 from Honda stating that "Growl from A/C Idler Pulley" is common from idler pulley bearings be faulty!! I guess others have had this problem?

still sounds a tad high. remember this is a civic. mileage of 100k is NOT high. id say if ya can get it to 9k with T, T, and T, then that sounds pretty reasonable.

If you gave a deposit pending inspection it sounds like you're comitted. I think most would say the price depends alot on what region your in. When I shopped early this summer in the Seattle area the prices I found for 'Excellent' shape LOW milage Civics was 1999 = $9000 98 = $8000 97=$7000 @ mid 90's the prices drop off. Honda's hold their value but there are always alot of them for sale so it's really a buyers maket. If it's a creampuff and checks out okay mechanically, needs no work (brakes etc.) then no buyers remorse for you @ 9k with sevice records / one owner etc.

KBB.com private party value for that car in "excellent" condition is $9,420

private party value in "good" condition is $8,780

Suggested Dealer retail for that car is $11,160!!!

Thanks Nonsense, that is what we saw in NADA and KBB.com when we were looking at it. I mean they were asking $10,995 which I though was crazy we went back THREE times before we even put the deposit down. Then we talked it down some more to $8,300 after a local Honda specialist shop checked it out for us.
