1 for night and day...
its not that its better or worse...but it is different.
ive had 2 that i made myself...one with the top cut shorter, which made shorter harder shifts. and one with the top shorter and the bottom longer, which pretty much just made the shifts shorter if not a little harder. one i made was way too long on the bottom and rubbed the exhaust, but you only had to click it into gear.
it saves mad amounts of time when your going to pick up groceries or going to work...

Hmm, better for shifting. Do you mean faster shifting, which could in turn make you accelerate quicker. Or do you mean better feeling, easier, what?
Easier to shift...no
Flick of the wrist...i'll say night and day on that one, but hondas are already a shorter throw compared to a vw, or a bmw imo

I got a kunk2 weighted short shifter and a skunk2 weighted shift **** and also installed neuspeed shifter bushings.....the throw is perfect and feels so smooth.....before it had a lot of play and I would miss 2nd every now and then because the bushings were so worn.....also before I put in my skunk2 shifter there was a cheap *** ebay one in there that was worthless and difference was night and day.....the skunk2 I think is the best combo out there....
Its a huge difference. The one im using is one that i made myself. Just cut right below the bushing, welded about an inch of tubing in, then took about another inch fron the top above the bushing to lower the height a littler, works awesome, never miss's, and is super short from gear to gear.
i dont think that it needs to be much shorter, i just think it feels a little in direct and a little slow. i dont mind a bit of throw but i would like it to go from gear to gear a little better.
i love it, but the stock one isn't bad either... driven both mine with the short and brother's with the stock and... honestly it didn't matter either way driving nice or hard.

...not necessarily. A badly made one will not have the proper travel and short it, but if it's made right the tranny doesn't know the difference. You may put extra pressure on it, that's all.

How is a short throw shifter bad for your tranny? Considering that the driver knows how to shift properly, that is.

Its all about the driver. I have a short shifter on my car and a used s1 tranny, its a 12 year old tranny and never grinds. I have seen many 2000 civic si come in with the grinding problem and all of them had the stock shifter. Does that tell you something ? Also Honda is aware of the problem, if you a good customer and they want to keep you, they will cover it for free. Even if you a good driver and your using a stock shifter, there is always that chance there your gonna experience syncho wear.

My tranny is really notchy.
Its not a smooth shift at all. I feel that if i went with a short shifter i would loose too much leverage.. Making it harder to shift, or misshift.
I once took a stock one, and modified it... Didnt like it

Get every single bushing and washer that goes in between the shifter and I gurantee it will fix it.

night and day.
really quick shifts, even with the blown 2nd-3rd synchro.
not really any more difficult, 'cause it's not like the d-series 'boxes are brutes or anything.

When I first put my B&M short shifter, it was alot quicker and stiffer. But that was only 2 weeks ago. Now it went back to the mushiness that my old shifter had. Super loose. But I still like it.
I've got a no-name one on each of my CRX's and wouldnt be without it! Just got done 2 hrs ago installing one on my friends car.
The trick is to get a shift **** that installs with 3 small allen screws. Then cut the top off the short shifter as far down as the inside diameter of the ****. Then just tighten the **** on, and you have a shortened-short shifter! I have a 3" shift pattern!
