Default taillights missing the GLOSS!

I have a set of 95 lights..and I sprayed the tail lights candy red. It came out pretty good, It's all red now BUT it doesn't gloss. I sprayed a top layer (3 layers total) of "KRYLON" crystal clear High GLOSS on them. They kinda shine now with a gloss but they don't shine as much and as clean as before and the reflection isn't clear, the reflection is kinda blurry. It's glossy but dull glossy.

what should I do to correct this error?

yea i guess painting from the ouside is okay, i just thought you should paint them from the inside so the paint would last longer and you wouldn;t lose the shine of the original plastic....

Hey i said to each there own,but since you want to call names take it like this,it looks like a little rice mobile with a cheezy spray painted pair of tail lights, this shouldn't be done to any car with an symbol on it,it looks straight up cheezy and so do the altezzas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!To me it has nothing to do with money, but to you it does.

It may look good, but I've also seen Tegs with tailights that were painted all different colors and looked extra ricy.Thats just my opionion.Like i said no offense meant just my opionion.

He isnt painting them different colours, hes painting them red. Im sure you didnt mean any offense when you said it was "really gay and ricey".

edit: And ya, I think some clearcoat would fix that up. IM a guy named Cybernutz or something, there was a discussion about this in another thread.

wouldn't it be easier to just buy 98-01 tail lights and install them into a 94-97 teg? or does it not fit?

Hey someone remembered my totally flamed post, ha ha. Anyways about the gloss, did you paint the whole light or just the orange? I painted just the orange it it came out pretty good. What paint did you use? I used Krylon Stained Glass Color and it matches almost perfectly. Oh yea and I also used some Dupont Clear coat. I'm not sure how glossy you want your lights, you can see in the pic up there how glossy mine are, it's not like as glossy as the stock ones was but it's still a little glossy. I haven't tried any of those methods they suggested like sanding and all that, maybe you should give that a try.

Hey, thanks for posting a pic of it. yeah mine is like that too, it looks glossy like that but if you were to look at it, the "signal"(part that you've and I've painted), it is dull glossy or HAZY compared to the rest of the tail light. you will see a reflection but it isn't crystal clear as the untouched part, it's blurry/hazy. could it be the clear coat itself? the high gloss paint?

this is what I did.. I wet sanded the area with 1500 or 2000 sand paper. then sprayed 3 layers of Krylon Crystal GLOSS coat on them (10 mins interval) let them set. then polished them with Mcguire(spelling) Polished 2 times.. lastly McGuire canaba(spelling) wax 2 times.

the gloss just doesn't match up to the original, could it be the pastic itself cause I sanded it? It doesn't have the GLASS GLOSS reflection.
anymore comments on what to use to get them back to original gloss as much as possible?

thanks
I'll take a pic and post it up if you want to compare them.

yea, you can kinda tell where I painted on my tail light too, but only if you look really close. Other than that it's not really noticeable. I'm not too sure about the sand paper thing though, sounds like it would make it more hazy, I'm not sure how that works. But here's a pic of what it looks like on the car. Not an exact match but hey, it looks a lot better than the stock 95s with the orange turn signal. I'm all for cheap mods you know.

does it matter which clear coat I use? I was looking at TESTORS paint(people say their paint/clear is the best) Cause TESTORS have 3 different kind, CLEAR ACRYLIC GLOSS, CLEAR ENAMEL GLOSS, and CLEAR LACQUER GLOSS?
which one of these is Best to bring the STOCKtaillight gloss back?

I used the Testors paint and it came out as shiny as the taillights and I have not even clear coated them yet. If I could figure out the whole picture posting thing, I would post pics. Email me if you want to see mine....Farnsrocket@cs.com

ive done painting taillights a few times..
just buy a transparent candy apple red paint..
NOTE* the better the brand..the longer itll last*
and a clear coat..

make sure u dont paint it like mister nutz did though..u can sOOo tell that the tails were painted..
id recommend u to paint the whole thing..but lightly on those other areas..more on the amber areas..

Nah, just cleaned it real good and painted away. Who knows maybe you are supposed to sand it first, but I haven't had any problems yet.

well i think the sandin' only helps the paint to stick but probably keeps the shine better. Just checkin' gonna do my civic altezza's this weekend.
