Default Why you shouldnt teach standard in a Type R

A friend of mine was learning to drive standard in her cousins Type R. She was in a parking lot bouncing the clutch all over the lot. Anyways she was learning how to up shift to 3rd and instead of hitting the clutch and break to slow down she hit the clutch and gas. She freaked out because the RPM went up like crazy and she popped the clutch out when she was still hard on the gas. She slammed into a restaurant wall at 30 KPH and fucked up the front of the car. She called me really upset. I still think it is funny.

If nothing else is damaged in the engine bay. Then look at it from the bright side:

Congratulations! Your friend's cousin just won himself a brand new JDM front, paid by: your girl-friend and the insurance will never know.

I was teaching my niece and she ran the car up on the curb...

The steering is just too sensitive for learning...

Bah. Honda clutches are the easiest to learn on. Chalk that one up to either a bad teacher or a dumb girlfriend...

Either way, sucks for the R

wow, that sux.

I taught my friend's 15yr old sister in 234. I kept telling her no, but I gave in after she asked like a hundred times. Amazingly, she didn't stall once in the 45 min lesson *whew*

yoshi - who wonders if he's just a g00d teacher

Well, I wouldn't say that...there are a couple of women out there that prove that wrong. For the record, my last 5 cars have been stick.

oh man when I clicked on this thread I thought you were going to tear me a new *******...ok I shouldnt generalize. but it seems like there are many girls who buy Rs (and fast cars in general) for the wrong reasons...but there are also guys who buy them for the wrong reasons. It's a mixed bag, and occasionally one meets a girl like you who is actually into driving, not cruising and looking cute...

Aside from this girl Merritt (who I have only heard about, not seen), and Diane/r2X (who is damn good), I have yet to see a girl driving on the racetrack. That alone speaks a bit to what the guys have been saying.

Thank God!

some people, when the group they belong to is getting criticized, get so hot and bothered that they can't see straight enough and respond to what is really being said, and just attack the person saying stuff. GSRgrrl =

Well, I do get tired of hearing the same old standard, but in some cases it DOES apply. There are just as many guys out there that can't handle a hot car as well. And yes, most women were not conditioned from early on to handle cars as well as guys were. I'm just glad I have an interest in cars, and a guy that was willing to teach me stick...on my first own car. I DO agree also that the itr is NOT a great car to learn stick on.

I dunno, I taught a girl how drive a stick on my R and she is the proud owner of a 2001 GSR. I think it all depends, some people weren't meant to drive a stick. I think it's great when I see a girl with a manual tranny. But that sucks about the car, I don't think that I would teach any one else. At least not on my car. I learned on a Miata, that thing had a great tranny.
