Default 14'' Hoosier Rain Tire for $80 at TireRack

I saw the lastest Tire Rack add in SportsCar and notice that they list this Hoosier rain tire for only $80 for the 14'' size. That's pretty freaking cheap! Has anyone had any experience with these? I'm considering purchasing a set.

Note that those are not the Dirt Stockers that everyone swears by when it's really wet.

Phil Phillips was telling me at Summit two weeks ago that he had heard good feedback on these tires and that they were as good, if not better than the dirtstockers we all use.

I will reserve judgement until I get some. To me the best rain tire is the still the Grand Am Hoosier but it's hand cut and not DOT legal so we can't use them in NASA or SCCA.

Dirt Stockers are a close second.

Jon Kofod

I have a set of 14" dirt stockers that have never been ran for sale... 200$+shipping.

Sorry hi-jack.. just seemed appropriate!

More feedback I've heard, mainly from D-stock autocrossers in BMW 330's since that's who had them in my class at nats:

Great in the deep wet just like the dirt stockers, with sharper turn-in and better tolerance of drying conditions. They're radials so the turn in is understandable as I suppose the part about drying conditions since there's more mass to heat up before they overheat.

They aren't listed on the Tire Rack site.

Oh well, I don't need them, everytime it rains when I autocross is either (a) after my rungroup went, or (b) early enough that I have at least one dry run by the end of the day.

I noticed the price too. My question has been the actual specs on the tires and what wheel sizes they fit. Neither Tire Rack or Hoosier sites have any specs listed on the 14's. A few reports I saw from the Atlanta nat'l tour, when they were ruled not eligible, was they destroyed everyone who did not have them. I don't understand why the 205/55/14's are so much cheaper than the rest, but am thinking of getting them even without specs. One report I recall was that they did not wear out super fast like the dirtstockers, so they could be good for multiple wet events.

John, do you even bother buying regular R-comps? I figured you just ran on dirstockers all year 'round...
