Default JDM ITR cluster dilema solved (kinda)

OK, here's the deal...

1998 USDM ITR (car)
1996-1997 JDM ITR instrument cluster

Initially, the seat belt light was on all the time and the gas gauge did not work.

Solution: Remove the "circuit plastic sheet" and swap them.

Result: The gas gauge works and the seatbelt light is not on all the time and I am happy.

For those of you who said that the "circuit plastic sheet" is the same between the USDM & JDM ITR you are incorrect. There are slight differences in the area of the seatbelt light. Nothing big, but enough to not make it work right.

Another thing I noticed is that the gauge clusters themselves are slightly different (e.g. the seat belt light is in a different spot as well as the open door indicator). Also, there is no SRS and ABS lights on the JDM ITR cluster. In addition to this, the JDM ITR cluster has a catalytic converter heater light (it looks like a steaming hamburger).

One other thing, due to the different position of the seatbelt and open door indicator lights the seatbelt light lights up when the doors are open.

Hope this helps you guys in the future.

kenji.. what the funk am I supposed to do with you. lol I could have saved you a solid.. 15 minutes there! hehe. In the case of my GS-R cluster.. it was easier to swap the gauges rather than the motherboard. This is the method I suggest to people, and of course to check the light sheets. Some older clusters (older gs-r's for example) have the icons located in different spots, so swapping the gauges and those plastic light sheets is a solid 10 minute job probably.

-Dave, who has been using a JDM ITR cluster for... awhile.

So you just swapped out the guages GSR gauges with the ITR guages ?!
Did you have to re-wire anything ? Or are the guages Plug and Play ?

The gauges are all mounted the same way, in the same located. The motherboards are different. Kenji switch the motherboard, I found it to be easier to switch the gauges. You just put the ITR gauges into the GS-R cluster backplate/housing, switch the CF cover if you want the fake CF vs the black, screw it back together and your done.

The Circuit boards for 94-96 is marked 723A, the ones on a 98 ITR are marked 723C. I have been told that you can get them from Acura.

Dave,

I guess I could have done what you mentioned (transplanting the JDM ITR gauges in the USDM ITR cluster). But, if I did that I would not have the hamburger heater light . I am probably going switch the gauges out in the near future.

You should wire that 'hamburger heater light' to your VTEC, so when VTEC pops, the things starts "cookin"! lol.

Hey Kenji... go punch yourself in the nuts again.
