helms idle adjustment procedure
I followed helms' idle adjustment procedure, but when I unplug the IAC, car cuts off. What am I suppose to do now? Here's my problem, car will not idle when it's cold, it will idle sitting still until I drive it, then at the first light, it will stall out.
I think it says this in the Helms, but make sure there's no load on the engine when you unplug the IAC (no lights, fans, etc.). Also, have the engine already completely warmed up before you try it.
Where is your idle when it's running? If it's at the right place and still stalling out every time you come to a stop, bumping the idle will only be a band-aid. You want to find the real problem - most likely something to do with the IAC. Have you tried cleaning the little screen inside it? Sometimes that can get built up with crud and hurt it's performance. Just pull off the IAC, you'll see the screen I'm talking about.
