Can you tune a boosted car without the aid of a dyno?
I posted this topic on CSI and want the HT opinion.
I want to boost my car in the next year or so and I live in NW Ohio. There aren't any performace shops or really an import scene. I'm not sure if there are dynos in Toledo (an hour away).
I was wondering if you can do a relativley close tunning in other ways. Be creative, now I must go home, I'm off work.
To add: The boosting would be limited to 6 to 8psi. It wouldn't be drag raced or autocrossed. I'm just curious if it can be tuned so you have a strong, reliable runner.

i think the closest thing is to datalog the readings from your stock (crappy) O2 sensor. you won't really be able to tell the difference between, say, 13.0:1 and 13.5:1 but you will be able to get in the ballpark, esp. if you spend some time with it and figure out how the O2 sensor reacts over time and with varying temperatures.
next thing would be to get a wide band O2 sensor (lots of $$$)
there must be a dyno in Toledo.

I tuned mine to within about 5% of peak HP with the stock O2 sensor and HondaLogger. When I got on the dyno I was a little lean but nothing serious. I would only use this method as a precursor to going to the dyno to save time, not as a primary tuning method.
i did the same but with a cheap-o OBD2 datalogger. when i got the dyno i found that i was very lean; .9v on my O2 sensor was reading close to 14:1 on the wideband!! we richened it to 13:1 and 12.5:1 up top and it reads .92-.94v now.
sure it can be. Get yourself a speed pro or a standalone with an integrated wideband. I have never been on a dyno myself. My car is running alright and has been for a few months.
Some guys can tune using an SAFC/VAFC. Tune it based on the O2 sensor voltage. Use an EGT gauge to assist you as well. You can get a pretty decent tune without paying $100+ an hour.

I got an Idea...Borrow a Wideband like the Motec Lamda and do pulls on the highway and tune with that...
Or you could always buy one...and let others use it for $$$

why not just buy a dyno...I can't believe that for the low price of around $40,000-70,000 nobody has their own in each garage...
