Default Anyone paint there cluster bulbs ?

Had nothing to do one day an decided to paint them to make them look like this

Both pic are not of my gauges just a pic I'm using, this is how they looked before

Anyways I was wondering if anyone else did this in there crx or hatch, if so what paint did you use and what was the resulting color, I used the same paint he used but it came out a little more pinkish.

I would think the paint would burn off from the heat.

i don't think hi-temp paint would let enough light through

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=661308

I'm going to try that paint next (Testors Competition Orange #1628). I used Krylon Stained Glass paint and it faded. That guy's cluster looks sick so I'm going to do what he did next. I'm also going to do the climate controls.

They have bulb covers. I think autodynamic.com might have them.

I have tried using different color bulbs before, never tried painting them. I just figured that the paint would burn off. Personally, I liked how orange and red looked.

Thats the paint I used and here is my problem

I bought 2 new bulbs because 2 were burnt out, well it seems like they sell the older style of bulbs that the 88-89 crx uses, there a little longer and not as fat. Now the paint looks good but in 2 spots it is really light, now its either because of the old bulbs not being bright enough ( which I really think the problem is ) or the new bulbs are not bright enough. The old bulbs are bigger in size so I'm thinking that could actually be brighter, I'm gonna have to see tomorrow. I'll have some pics tonight so people can see how it turned out. Also it seems like the needles are not highlighted in red also, so I'm thinking one of the bulbs I painted is for the needles, any input on that ? I'm in a hurry so I don't have time to check. Pics up tonight though.

if not the cluster with them on

painting the needles sounds like a great idea to me

Don't think so, those twist in, ours push in rather. I see 3 bulbs that might fit, anyone know for sure which one will fit ?

Also one is 1st one is 1 led, second one is 4 led and the last one is 6 led, do you guys think that there might be a chance that 6 led's could be to bright ?

Does it? Mine's only been done for like 3 months & it's fine so far. There are a couple pinkish spots where I accidentally rubbed off the paint, so I was already planning on swapping new ones in since it isn't hard, and that way I have extras that I can rotate in, if it does fade. How long did yours last for?

It will last about 3 months, as stated above. I could actually smell the paint today when I had my lights on. Anyways those bulbs are only 50 cents posted up above and they will be a permanent fix.

Yea, I just didn't see a #24 LED on their site. They have the #74's though. If I could find a site w/ #24's I'd give it a shot.

What do you mean #24, I talked to Phil (88dxcrx) and he said the older clusters use #194 ( look above all of the ones I posted are #194 ) but he thinks the newer clusters might have changed, but thats probably true because the 88-89 and the 90-91 light bulbs are different, but they are interchangable.

I'm referring to my EG . I need #74 & #24 sized bulbs.

My EF guage cluster was originally the whitish color (Si cluster) but my fuel needle was broken by the previous owner (indiglo's) but I purchased an HF guage cluster & it lit up an amber color, so I never worried about changing it.
