Default When to get the VAFC?

When is the best time to buy/install the VAFC to get the best use out of it? Do you need it after bolt-ons or after internals only?

I would make it my first mod if I could start over.

Then again, it will be the first mod on the hybrid

To seriously answer, it will help you greatly after both bolt-on mods and internals...

after i/h/e it will help you out... Actually you could prolly see gains over stock i/h/e with just a vafc... I suspect... Contrary to popular belief...

You'd likely see a bit of gain on a stock R. I added mine after i/h. Dyno-tuning showed a nice gain, and there were a good number of changes made to fuel, not to mention a changed VTEC engagement point.

I'd get one early on in the build-up

What kind of nice gains are we talking about? You wouldn't happen to have any dynoplots with the I/H and the I/H/VAFC would ya?
