Default FYI: What ALT belt to run with a JDM CTR N1 Crank Pulley.

I had so much trouble finding a belt that worked. I didnt really care who made it.

The stocker was a 660mm.

I went to a local auto parts store. Purchased a belt that was 650mm, it fit tight inside the old belt, but was too short.. I went to another parts store. They told me there was no such thing as a 655mm belt.. So i returned the old belt that didnt fit, and they said ther was a 655mm but they dont stock it.

So at this point its getting late and i need my car.. I go to UAP Napa Auto parts. and bam, 655mm in stock.

Its still a tight fit, i had to put the alt on the smallest setting, and slip the belt on the turn over the engine with a bar. Just fit, not too tight, not too loose.

Its amazing the difference between a 655 and a 660mm.

So the belt you need is a 655mm belt with 4 grooves. I forget the Imperial conversion, i think it was... 10 3/4"

I have a CTR pulley in my hatch, and as soon as i put i on i could feel the diferance! I used a Gates belt i have the part number some place in my garage. Useing the CTR pulley is the way to go if you dont have A/c or power sterring. And its better than cuting the stock pulley, Ive seen that done before

I know this thread is a little old but I wanted to let you guys know I was able to fit a 640mm belt onto my JDM CTR crank pulley with stock ALT.

I bought a 655mm belt and the next one down which was 640mm.I got the 655 on but there was slack in the belt. I took it off and tried to get the 640mm on and with a little finesse I got it on. I have the ALT full forward and with this belt there is no slack on the belt. I mean I push down on it and the belt is tight.

The trick is to put the ALT all the way forward then slip the belt over the ALT pulley first then slip it over the top and forward part of the crank pulley. The belt will be too tight to slip over the bottom of the crankpulley though. So with a long, thin-body, small flathead screwdriver you want to gently stretch out the bottom of the belt by using the crankpulley and screwdriver to stretch it out. Try to stretch it out as far as you can and get as much of the belt onto the edge pulley as you can. Then you just turn the pulley counter clockwise and the pulley should slip right on. If it didn't you aren't doing it right. You got to stretch it out a little, then quickly put the belt onto the edge of the pulley so the pulley "grabs" it when it turns.
