Default When to get a VAFC?

When would be a good time to get a vafc? Are they pointless on a stock car? What kind of mods would I need before the VAFC would be useful?

Thanks
Matt

don't get one unless you have your motor tune.

With bolt ons (including cams) and a adj fuel regulator, a VAFC would help smooth things out, and pick up a little power. For almost the same money, Hondata or something similar could be purchased.

Default wooo wooo hold on a second..

hondata is exspesive you can pick up a vafc 2 for like 200-300.. the nice hondata system is like over 1000. i have a header intake exhaust as far as engine performance.. i bought a vafc 2 and had it tuned.. not only is it visually impressive you can adjust settings on the go. i took it to ABACUS RACING my 00si went from 142 hp to 149 hp and my torque went from 102.6 to 106.5. id say 6-7 hp gain and 4 pounds of torque gain is awesome for the price..very good tuners. plus if you go minor boost like a supercharger or a small turbo it is really all that is needed.. if you have the money go with the hondata.. but if your not planning on a huge build id say its a decent investment. a good tuner chargers 70-150 an hour and this usually only takes an hour to tune.. plus its easy to install if you get the updated instructions not the ones that come in the package.. dont pay someone to install it or they will charge 80-150..

Do some more research, you're incorrect. A basic Hondata system is about $250, and will own a VAFC. I've had a VAFC on 3 of my set ups, and @ries smoothed everything out, and picked up some power on Dynamics dyno, but after researching, I've learned that Hondata has more tunability, more options, and the price is comparable to that of a VAFC.

dont waste your money on a vafc.. go with hondata.. more potential for cheaper... around here they charge around 600CAD or so for a VAFC2 .. I only paid 500CAD for my hondata unit.. But if you are just doing a mild setup and want something that looks cool on the dash go for it...

It would really depend on how far you want to tune the car and what your future plans are. If you plan on changing alot of the fuel and air mixtures (i.e. turbo, Nitrious, Fuel pump, manifold, etc....) Then go hondata. But for mild things like a FPR, Cam gear and other minor bolt ons just go Apexi.

Right now the car has a Apexi Dunk exhuast. I am trying to get a plan for what I will need so I don't have to buy things twice. After the motor dies, for whatever reason, I plan on rebuilding and getting an Edelbrock turbo kit. If I get that kit I won't need a Hondata correct? So basiclly I should just wait, not buy anything and use the edelbrock electronics?

That's fine, but none of that is necessary. He cans start with a base set up, and build on it, or he can purchase the features that he needs when he boosts. He definately does not need everything you have listed. S100 system with boost option, plus boost reading capability $445.00.
