Idle Adjuster - Something you all should know about . . .
open the screw all the way up (unscrew it as far as it goes), then go for a drive. a hard drive. notice how the revvs fall between shifts. now screw it all the way in, and have another go. notice how the revvs fall way faster now. not sure how many of you guys picked up on this, but i did a search on it and found that nobody here has mentioned it yet, and i figured anyone into road racing, autoX, or whatnot, might be interested. i don't know whether maybe this belongs in the road racing board or what, but i trust somebody with greater tenure here will either notify me, move the whole post, or post a copy in the right place. just figured i'd share a little knowledge
now whats the point of this? If i were racing i wouldnt want to have the revv's fall fast.
you should move this to general discussion and debate

Well....duh. If the adjustment screw is open all the way that means there is more air going in. Which would mean a higher idle, which also means the revs won't drop as fast because it will almost be like the gas is down just a little bit. And the opposite effect when the screw is all the way closed.
Quite obvious.

He should just keep his foot floored on the gas the entire shift. That way the rev's NEVER drop!

why on earth wouldn't you want your revvs to drop faster? i mean, am i the only person on this board with a heavy stock flywheel? my tranny is a pile of junk, and difficult to shift quickly, but i still manage to shift faster than the engine can wind down if the idle screw is backed out half-way or so. so i tighten it until i get to the point where when i redline shift, by the time my left foot is ready to come off the clutch, the engine is at the exact speed it will need to be at in the new gear, usually around 4500 or 4400. then the clutch engagement (which, i admit, i have a stock clutch trying to put down 145whp) is smooth and very quick. i can just drop the clutch and hammer the gas, and off i go. or maybe i'm the only idiot with a stock POS clutch. haha, i tried slipping the clutch for a 2000rpm launch, not even drop the clutch, just slip it, and i got a cabin full of clutch smoke. yummy . . .
