Sporadic VTEC engagement, any ideas?
Howdy all,
Ive got a 1985 CRX Si with a B16a1 swap in it. I didn't do the swap myself but it was done by a pretty good shop in Boston. The Vtec engages at 5500 RPM consistently in first and most of the time in second and third but when on the highway flooring it in fourth or fifth it might no activate until almost 6500 RPM. The car was converted to OBDI to the best of my knowledge. I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas as to why this was happening. Im going to be getting a VAFC to help with the tuning, do you think that wil help?
Thanks a lot guys
Matt

The VAFC will at least give you a more accurate reference on the RPMs, stock tachs suck for accuracy. That might be the problem, but if you can really tell that it's a later rpm, something else might be to blame.
sounds like an ecu problem, maybe somthing is screwy with the obd0 to obd1 conversion, i am sure it is just a simple ecu problem, maybe get that looked at by the shop that did the swap
ok I will ask them about that, is there anything i should mention as a suspect in the case? Its a definite difference in RPM so im positive its not my tach, but i will check it out once i get the VAFC.
