Default Fixing Timing Belt that has slipped a tooth.

Last week my distributor seized and I am pretty sure my timing belt slipped a tooth. Car was running fine then it shut down and would not start. I replaced the distributor with one from Distributor King. The car starts and idles fun, but the distributor is turned as much as it will go and the timing is still a little off. The car bogs down low and is getting real bad gas mileage.

Now I was wondering what I have to go through to fix this. I changed the timing belt about 20,000 miles ago and am hoping it is not as complex as that. I was wondering if I could just take the valve cover off to get to the cam gears. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I searched but could not find any info, just a few posts about other people who had a distributor problem cause their timing belt to slip. TIA.

just take your valve cpver off along with the side plastic cover and check timing

and what if the timing is off? I have to release the tension correct. Im sorry it has been a while and since I messed with the timing belt. Could I fix it with just the valve cover off?

I took your advice Jim and it worked. I did not use a hanger however. I pulled the valve cover and put the motor at top dead center and sure enough the timing belt had slipped a tooth. I just loosened the tensioner bolt and slid the timing belt off the cam gears and lined everything up. Then I just slid the belt back on, tightened everything back up according to spec.

the car is running much better now. No more bogging or smelling like gas when I drive.

Also according to these posts and others like it, it was a common problem in 92-93 integras and Acura even had a recall on the distributors.
