If the code registers it could throw your car into limp mode.

Im sure it will..its just a matter of time.

Your car will run terribly with a broken knock sensor.

Ya you can just replace the sensor.... But OBDII computers are alot easier to trip codes on compared to OBDI computers

that would explain why my car runs like *** right now :D it likes to bog down a lot and then speed up... i won a knock sensor on ebay and im waiting for them to mail it now... hopefully that will get rid of my CEL and make the car run better

uh
why not look at the CEL? it could be completley unlreated to the knock sensor.

it never ceases to amaze me people just throw parts at a problem without diagnosing it.

er, i guess i worded what i said wrong... i did diagnose it and my CEL is for the knock sensor... what i meant was that i was hoping that when i replace the knock sensor, that it will make my CEL go away... because im annoyed with it and i want it gone right now...

Replacing the knock sensor may fix it unless it's not broken and the sensor is in fact hearing some sort of knocking in your block.

You can get used knock sensors, they still cost a bit but who knows how reliable they are...and new ones are well over $100. Why not use the cash to pick up a P28 ecu which doesn't look for a knock sensor? Another $74 for the OBD1 conversion harness and you're set.

As long as you use a P28 that is correct. Also if you have OBD1 you can think about ecu mods down the road.
