9005 question
i searched but didnt find an answer i was lookin for...
wanted to know if the ge superblues were any sort of "yellowish" for the 9005 conversion... i recently blew out a sylvania cb and thought to do the ss's again but wanted to see what you all thought of the ge superblues..since theyre 1/2 the $$.
plus i want something that's gonna last longer than 6-8 months!!!!!!!!!!!
in terms of light output, im sure theyre bout the same yeah? and i figured the ss's would be more white but i wanted to verify from those who have used the ge superblues as to how white they are or yellow they are? any info..greatly appreciated
peace

In tems of light color, you might not get alot of responses here, appearance section maybe... I'm running PIAA Extreme White 9005, and they are the whitest I've seen that do not have a blue tint to the light produced. The bulb itself is a very light blue. At first, I really loved the white color, but when it comes down to it, more light is better, and with a blue filter, you do remove some light, so they are not as bright as a clear bulb. If you are doing it purely for looks, then just get some cheap eurolite, apc, or other ricer bulb in a 9006 and be done with it. If you want more light, just avoid the "white" bulbs with blue tint.
As far as them lasting, you know 9005 are only rated for 250 - 320 hours (brand dependant) right? 9006 are rated for 1000 hours, so there's a large difference The 9006ll by sylvania, the long life bulbs, are supposed to be good for 1500 hours.
If you really want more light and not have to replace them all the time, you should probably just get a set of 9012 from http://www.candlepowerinc.com. The 9012 are HIR bulbs, run at standard 55 watts (not the 65 of a 9005), produce more light than 9005 bulbs (1850 lumens vs 1700), and are rated to last like a normal 9006 (possibly longer, working from memory here). They're also supposed to be swappable with 9006, or rather, you are supposed to be able to put a 9006 in a 9012 socket and plug, so you might have to make slight modifications. I'll be switching when my 9005s die.
