i see civic turbo'ers do this all the time, its a very bad idea.....any little rocks or particles could get through that dude...not smart at all, and tell your friend to get an air filter on that turbo unless he wants to spool up little rocks and dirt and ruin his turbo.....

Just to clarify: This is just a piece of mesh and not a metal-mesh cone filter, right?

That's what he stated. He wanted to use the wired mesh instead of an air filter.

I would do it on my own car, but that's just me.

You WILL get a lot more contaminants into your intake, but it helps when there's no room to stick a filter and it helps out a bit on power.

If you can get a filter on there, PUT ONE ON!

How about if I take the filter from my car and trace it on a screen window. Then cut it out and replace the air filter with the screen. Would my spool time be decreased and boost hold up longer?

the gains on this would be minimal guys, its the same as the people who pop off their air filters and go for a joyride, youll get about 3hp from it....and yes i did pull the 3 hp number out of my ***, the *** who has seen dynos of cars with and w/o filters in person.....3whp vs. risking ruining your brand new sti...hmm....i think you better leave the filter....

Wire mesh is not an "air filter." If that were such a hot idea, don't ya think that it would be advertised everywhere?

""" ATTENTION!! Replace that annoying restrictive K&N with a chunk of screen from the door that your dog ran right through, and you're gonna trash anyhow; and gian a massive 3 hp and ridiculing from your tuner buddies!!! ACT NOW!!"""

Na, me don't think so......

I did it on the track with the R as an all motor car. I used two layers of window screen mesh held on with a hose clamp. Then I removed the passenger side turn signal.

But I ONLY did it at the dragstrip, never any other time. I needed every bit of power I could get to run against the likes of Sgt and Lip with only stock cams ............
