Aftermarket Thermostat question
I know that the OEM thermostat is designed to fail in the open position. If I replace it with one from a part store (Pep boys, Autozone, Trak auto, etc...) Will it also fail in the open position? This is a great engine-protecting feature and want to keep it with the new thermo.

When people say failing it means that the spring that it is made out of will wear out, leaving it in the open position. all thermostats should do this. When you go out and buy one you'll see what i mean. Oh and BTW they're about 12 bux.

wrong. not all thermostats fail open. I know this first hand from multiple cars, including my integra. possibly later models than mine have the type you are talking about, but basically there are two kinds. I haven't shopped for one in a while, so I can't recall if it says on the packaging, but just ask someone in the shop. I'd call your local Honda dealer and ask if their OEM 'stats for your year are what you are looking for.
