Default what would cause an ignition coil to fry?

my car died so i opened up the distributor and the ignition coil was fried. plastic was actually melted on the coil. any ideas what would cause this to happen?

i put some bosch platinum plugs in the crx i had a few years ago and i fried two ignition coils before i figured it out. are you using the right plugs?

Plugs that are too hot in igniting temp.

that would make sense. i was running rich for a while (89 teg ecu runnin my higher compression d16z6)..i wonder if that could have had somethint to do with it..as the plugs were getting fouled up. well i replaced the coil and ignitor..i'll see if that does it. thanks
