Default Oil pump bad?

I just put a d16z6 block, with Y8 head into a 90 si. No oil is getting up to the head for some reason. If I rev the engine up, the oil light may go off. Could it be anything other than a bad pump? There is no bearing noise at all. What goes bad in an oil pump, besides the bearing?

unless you have clogged oil galleys for some reason.

Is it a complete z6 bottom end? In other words, are you running a z6 oil pan and oil pick-up?

bump, cause a buddy of mine is having the same problem with a z6 he just picked up. the oil light is coming on after only a couple miles of driving after oil change. the motor according to him also starts to knock. we pulled the dented oil pan off and checked out the bottom end. the bearings seem ok for 180k miles and the wrist pins are pretty good. we then pulled the pickup tube to the oil pump and turned the engine over by starter and notice a weak suction. how strong should this be? we then pulled the valve cover and noticed that the valvetrain was kinda dry so we reconnected the pickup tube and held some oil in a pan under it to see if any oil would reach the head. only got it to crank a few times before we lost battery, but no oil to the head at all. how much do you need to crank before the oil starts to pump? also, unless if you have any other ideas, what are other tests if any for the oil pump without taking it off? thanks.

cliffs notes: how strong is the suction from an oil pump? how much do you need to crank the motor before the oil pump starts to pump? how can you test an oil pump in car?
