How hard is replacing the o2 sensor in a 2000 'lude?
Hey all, I was recommended this site from the auto-fanatic goons on the Something Awful forums when I came to them with my 2000 Prelude's problem.
Here's my car's problem. I took my 2000 prelude to get checked out because the check engine light was on. The code that came back was P0133, which according to the mechanic means the 02 sensor near the catalytic converter is out of commission. This problem sounded serious enough that I was ready to get the repair done on the spot, until I heard they wanted $500 for the job. I'm wondering if I can do this work on my own for less money, at low risk, and in a reasonable amount of time. A manual that I might need was mentioned. Are there any good spots to buy Honda o2 sensors that you know of?
Thanks in advance.
Also, my local dealer wants $500 for the 60k tune-up. Is that reasonable in your opinion?

$500 is wayyyyyy to much for an 02 install.
All you need a jack and some jackstands to lift the front of the car up. Get on your back and change it with a wrench.
Honda OEM o2 sensor will perform the best, dont go cheap on it.

yes definitely diy... you will have a tough time getting the old one out but don't give up... you can buy the o2 sensor and a manual from http://www.helminc.com for less than what the dealer wanted damn.
This is real easy to do. Just get under your car, disconnect the sensor, and undo it from your cataylic convertor, and put your new one in, then do everything in reverse. If you sensor comes out with ease, this should probably take you about 20-30min. to do

Yup. But it takes a bigass wrench to do it. Go get a big crescent wrench that goes over 24mm or so, so you don't have to worry about getting the right size.
Installin an O2 sensor should take no longer than 20 minutes.
