You said you bought an antenna, where did you mount it and what type of antenna?

Make sure that the antenna's outer conductor is grounded.

The ant. is grounded at both ends, [has to be] when you mount the ant. it gers its ground from the cars body, right at the ant. base, the part that is inside the body skin is held to the body, [ground] by the shaft bolt that you screw into ant. from the outside of body, you need a multimeter to check the ant., set meter to contenuity, one probe gos to ground, [chassis] the other will 1- go to center pin of ant. plug, [the part you plug into radio] there should be NO contenuity, [no connection, no "beep" out of multimeter] 2- to the outside of ant. plug, [the bigger part] there should be FULL continuity, [meter will "beep" and read dead short or 0000 or close] 3- one probe to pin and other probe to the bigger part, again there should be NO continuity, no beep from multimeter, and readout should not move, [change] if any of this is not happening, the ant. or ant. lead is bad, the ground needed for the plug end comes from plugging it into the HU, [ the part that makes contact in the HU with the outside, [bigger part] of the plug is grounded to chassis through the HU. 94
