Question about Winterizing
So I am in college right now, going to JMU in Harrisonburg VA. While I am here my 500R sits in my garage 2 hours away. Last time I was home was 18 October, and I was coming home with a new battery because my dad was not able to start my bike every week like I wanted him to, because of the dead battery. Anyways when I got home for fall break i put the new battery in and it didnt turn over. I tried later that night and it ran, I was excited as hell, it then ran the next day as well. Well the day after that which would be Saturday, I couldn't get it to turn over, It had just started Thursday night and then Friday during the day.
So I go home around 21 November for Thanksgiving. The last time I tried to start my bike it didnt work. While I am here at school my battery is inside and the bike is outside with fuel petcock to off.
Long story short: Should I take my bike to the mechanic when i get home in late november to get it running again? Then ask them to winterize it for me? Or just stick it out and then get everything done when the weather gets warmer in the spring? Let me know fellas.

Kawi's are known to have messed up carbs. My brother in law has a 250 Ninja and if he does not use it for a week or 2, we have to clean out the carbs. Best thing to do is when you know you are not gonna ride the bike for a while, mix in some carb cleaner into your gas and run the bike for a while. It will keep your carbs fresh for a while longer.
Mix in fuel stabilizer and run the bike for a while so the stabilizer can circulate. You should have teh gas tank full to prevent rusting on teh inside of the tank. Normally on a high compression bike I would get rid of the gas after the winter because the stabilizer drops the octane, but you're probably fine on the ex500. You should buy a battery tender and keep it hooked up to your battery. You can buy the cheap Battery Tender Jr's for like 25 bucks and they do the job.
Most likely its your carbs. If you know how to pull em and clean em. Make sure you drain the float bowls. You probably got some gunk and old gas still in em. If you dont know how to do it, its pretty easy if you're mechanically inclined, but if know just take it to a mechanic.
