Default Engine Swap Horror

I just bought a 90 civic hatch si with a 97 engine swap. i bought it about a month ago and i cant get it smogged anywhere. i went to state ref. and they told me i need to install a 97 OBDII compliant converter, a 97 PCM, install/replace charcoal canister and check and repair high NOx emissions. Now i don't really know anything about this stuff since I am a new civic owner. I can really use some help on how I find these things cheap and if there is anything I can do to get it to pass without replacing these things. PLEASE HELP!!

what does the valve cover on your engine say.... ?....

and FYI... there was no Si hatch in 97 (HERE).... only the 2 door coupe, which was the only Si then. the 92-95 civic SI had a Single Cam.... the 97 was Dual Over Head CAm (DOHC)

can you read the engine code off the block itself? if you don't know where to look it is on the lower left hand side of the block. If you are standing in front of the car look left of where the exhaust manifold is bolted.

sigh i cant belive that u know nothing at all but were willing to buy the car with a swapped motor w/o doing ANY kind of research at all

im a smog tech here in cali not a smog ref, but what u need is to convernt ur wiring to obd2...ur car is runing obd0..i know of no obd0-2 conversions at all?, so if u can somehow get the ecu to work with the car im sure they'll let u go with that, second high nox is due to high combustion temps, i see alot of hondas with high *** nox, things that can raise nox, advanced timing, cooling system not up within specs, build up of carbon in the engine, carbon artifically raise's compression thus rasing combustion temps thus raising nox levels, running to lean will cause nox to go high theres alot of things and u most likely stopped reading after i started explaining things.

sigh u dont know nothing bout cars so u can do a couple things

1. sell the car
2. sell car
3. sell
4. buy a jetta

If it runs right and you don't want to mess with it follow these steps:
1. Take your hatch to nevada on a weekday
2. Go to the post office, get a PO box, have that PO box forward to your real home in santa clara,
3. Get your license there in Navada, Your address is that PO box.
4. Then get your car registered there at the same time.

Believe it or not, this is 100% legal if you insist that you live in Nevada whenever asked

If a cop asks - you live in Nevada, that PO box is an address, how do you think country folk get their mail, the USPS does not drive 40 miles for one house. Any information they need to send you will get to you at your home in Santa Clara provided you forwarded all mail that comes to the PO box.

Cost? It will cost you less to drive there, get lic, get registration, and get po box, than it will to smog your car and register it here in CA. It's cheap there. And if you factor in the money spend on OBD1 or 2 conversion costs that you don't need to keep your car running. You're gettin suckered by California.

OR Sell your car to me please. PM me your price, i need a new engine. Thanks ~ Nikozai

DUDE!! She gave you the block code... She said G instead of 6... she has a d16y7.

You're going to have to either upgrade your current engine now to OBD2, or trade for/buy an engine called a D16A6 (they're cheap).
