New member -- question about an Acura Legend I might buy.
hello everyone!
First off I forget what year this acura legend is....but its my dad's Acura Legend and its the typical brown one with creme interior. Since Im going to be buying it off my dad I dont anticipate price being an issue.
Im just wondering if its a good project car?
I am looking for another car to play with so that I dont put as many miles on my first love: my 1998 Honda Prelude.
First of all this Acura Legend has 171K on the original Trans. Its an automatic.. I dont think they made manuals for this car?
Trans runs perfect, its even smoother than my 98 prelude thats an SS.
LOL... yes (please dont bother posting about the SS.)
The suspension is my biggest area of concern: It is creaky and noisey as hell,
bumps and everything is fairly rough.
everytime I mention that he should get it looked at.. he says the "mechanic said everything is fine.. they can last 200K or more...blah blah blah." - end result he is not going to be doing anything to the suspension... he would rather see the car die I guess.
Steering: Steering is dangerous --as compared to my lude. I feel the *** and front and even the rear swing out on every turn its crazy... ( yet fun at the same time.)
The steering has a lot of play in it.. but does not groan at all.. its very quick.
Alternator issue: When I slam the gas the revs go up.. and every now and then the Alternator light blinks.
Oil etc... appear fine.. average leaks that can be fixed, I think he did decent up keep on the car.
I do remember a time he had what I consider two major problems:
1. The cars fuel line was messed up as far as leaking... and the smell of gas was scary as hell... but it I think it was fixed complete.
2. another gas line issue.. well more like the tank.. sometime when filling it full..
it would leak... scary.. and I DONT think this was fixed... its just not filled higher than when it says its full.
Interior: It looks like ***, the back seats have huge gouges in them and tears, the middle consoles deck part is hanging on very loosely, and over all its preety gross.
Im going to blue book it later tonight...
The car is going to be in a warmer climate for the remainder of its life. I like the car alot since it has some good punch in it.
Thanks in advance for all advice.

First of all, let me know what year the car is. Second, as long as you have lots of money, then the Legend might be a good project car. For most people, it isn't. They did make manual transmissions for these. The Legends that are 1991-1995 with the Type II motor, some of them came with 6spd transmissions. All of the 4drs came with a 5spd that were not automatic. My Legend right now I just passed 206k miles. The suspension on mine is very noisy also. I suggest getting new KYB Shocks and Struts, and some Eibach springs. Any other questions email me at shortenuff_3@hotmail.com
Good luck.
Good luck.

correction it was the 93-95 coupes that had the type 2 motors and the GS 94-95 that had the type 2s. others had type 1s with 5 speeds. type 2's come with 6 speed. there are 4 models LL,L,LS,GS.

only if you have expendable funds. when something goes wrong, it needs to be fixed immediately or the problem will snowball.
and from your description, i wouldnt waste my time nor my money on something like that.
