Advanced Timing= no VTEC???? need help
first gen b16a in a 94 Eg hatch. Have had some issues with car, spring tensioner was replaced, however timing belt was stretched in the process. I had to advance the timing VIA adjustable cam gears in order to drive the car. My question is, how does advancing the timing (condsiderably) effect VTEC engagement.
In addition i am also getting code 6 which is water temp sensor, however the fan still comes on so that has not been a problem. Does this have any effect on VTEC engagement. Also if you are going to give me a dumb answer about check VTEC silinoid, it has already been done, silionod is fine. LEt me know guys, thanks.

advancing cam timing doesnt effect "VTEC Engagement", But your MIL (engine light) will. the MiL will cause the engine to run open loop meaning no VTEC for you sir...check connections etc, there is an open somewhere..or change your sensor
your ecu takes a few sensors into consideration when vtec engages and coolant temp sensor is one of them. The coolant temp sensor doesnt make the fan work, the fan switch does that. The coolant temp sensor is the 2 wire sensor on the side of the head near the distributor (kinda.) Ever notice that when you first start your car in the morning, you try to smash it before its all warmed up and you dont really feel vtec. Thats because there is no vtec when your motors cold, your motor has to warm up and when the coolant temp sensor says its good, then vtec works. replace the sensor off any single cam motor and you should be good...
hmmm interesting....well the thing is this sensor worked perfectly in my buddy's car, and now not in mine. Are you guys sure that the water temp sensor is the same in a first gen b16a as in any d-series motors?
no, thats your fan switch on the back of the block, is your temp gauge working at all? and is the MIL a hard light or does it come on after your car is on for a while?

ok guys, got car running pretty decently, no VTEC, but it was running ok, drive the car home and as soon as i get home, i feel a sudden loss of power, come to find out the BELT SLIPPED..... I have no idea how this is possibly happining, new belt, new tensioner, new spring......WTF do you guys have any ideas how the belt could slip when all these parts are new, and only an hour before i put a new belt on tightened to specs, did timing, everything like you are soppose to......really need help thanks.
any ideas would be greatly appriciated, i am at the point where i will swap the motor back out for a d16z6 to have a car that is reliable, please let me know if any of you guys have any ideas, I REALLY do not want to do this.
dont stress so hard man. just change the t-belt and make sure its on with good tension, not too tight, but not too loose either. an old belt can get loose cause its all beat up. change that n you should be good. do you still have a light??
heres the update guys: All codes when away, and i found out y i was such a slug.....was runnin on 3 CYLINDERS, #1 cylinder was not firing b/c injector was broke, changed that and put a new tensioner/ and timing belt, and she pulls decent now....still have issues with the timing belt getting lose but not real loose, stumped on that one, but it drives well enough now that i dont wanna mess with it. Looking to get a stock p30 program to replace the VISION program i am currently running, hopefully that will clean her up a bit more, and run richer, since now it runs very lean...
Any more ideas are greatly appriciated.
