Weird. I put a 90 si cluster on my 90 HF and it works perfect.
Go to a local junk yard and get the plugs off the Si. cut the wires about
3 inches long. the wire colors are the same, just the location on the plug is different.
or, if you can remove the dash and swap the cluster wiring, you won't have to do any cutting.

if the cluster ever got wet from rain in the yard it probably won't work. i had that problem before i got my JDM.

im pretty sure its not the cluster because when i plugged it in...the check engine light came on even though the ecu was not showing any codes...that was the only indication that the cluster was working...i also remember reading somewhere that si clusters wont work on an hf without rewiring....and the guy at the junkyard told me when i took it back that its true because the hf has a shift light...im gonna go back there and do what spaceballs said and buy the dash wiring....thanks guys

get a chiltons manual if you havent. I goes into detail what the differences are between the HF and SI. My dad has a '90 Hf and we put an Si cluster in that, just two wires from the distributor to the tach and that's all she needed. But I warn you to use caution when doing this as the chiltons manual is very hard to read if you aren't mechanically inclined. A haynes would be a better choice if you have very little knowledge about this and just want to get a rough idea on how to rewire the cluster. Oh yeah and you will need the male Si plug that plugs into the Si cluster.
Just my $.02 Good Luck..............

I actually replaced my cluster in my 89 Civic Si when the factory one went bad. It turns out that from 88-91 there where two types of cluster. A Nippon Denso and a Nippon Seyka. It will say on the back of the cluster. Also on the front right below the speedometer in tiny letter, you will see a NS or ND for which model it is. If you put a Nippon Denso model in a car that had a Nippon Seyka, then it wouldn't work and vice versa. You have to put a Nippon Seyka into a car that originally had a NS. But most 88-91 Civic Si that I've seen are NS. Hope this helps.
