removing cam gears urgent help
hi
I'm installing adjustable cam gears because for some reason my timing is kind of weird and the notches on the t-belt wont let it improve.
right now, i'm trying to get them off, but I dont know how to hold the gear steady while i remove the cam gear bolt. Any tips? btw, my impact wrench doesn't fit, the engine's too big
thanks,
help asap would be great

They sell a tool, or there is a hole that you can stick an 8mm punch threw that will hold the cam. By the way it sounds like your going about your problem the wrong way.

with the belt still on hold the crank pulley still either with the right tool, your choice of the wrong tool, or last case scenario, put the car in gear and step on the brakes while someone breaks the cam gear bolts loose. do yourself a favor and read the procedure for timing belt alignment and see that your new cam gear has the factory timing mark around 7 o'clock or youll be digging yourself a deeper hole. the paralell marks are for d15.
I had a feeling that there was a hole for a punch but i couldnt find it. I have a b18c. Where is this hole to hold the camshaft still?
thanks for the input but bump for this question.

Actually I ment cam plate, here he is taking it off, I have never used this method to hold the cam gears but I have heard there is a hole around there.

And changing the cam gears are not gonna help you, unless your old cam gears are really really banged up but I doubt that.

what the hell he just wants to take the cam gear off and put on adjustable ones he doesnt need to take the damn valve cover off lol
look wedge the crank pulley or either the cam pulley so that you can brake the bolt lose, it shouldnt be that hard, really you should just be able to turn on the bolt with a wrench, you dont really need to wedge it but if you wanto you can do this with a big screwdriver or any kind of inanimate object that you want

Do you know how to read ? I guess not, he is having timing issues that's why he wants to switch cam gears, there is no way that new cam gears will fix the problem. And I'd like you to tell me how to take cam gears off on a b series engine with out removing the valve cover, you can't because the cover is in the way!

I dont want to break my timing belt... i'm kind of scared to put that much tension on the belt- holding the crank pulley.
btw you need to take off the valve cover anyway... it's not possible otherwise.

with the engine at TDC on cylinder #1 you can stick a drill bit threw the hole on the cam cover and it should allign with the hole in the cam. like i said, stick a 5mm brace or a drill bit thats big enough, and it will lock up the cam. thats how i got mine off.
oh and if you use a drill bit, dont stick it in with the top of the bit going down, put it in like you would be putting it in a drill, you are likely to break the bit if you do it the other way.
