Default When I got type R camshafts.....

When I got the Civic Type R intake camshaft, I didn't notice and change in sound during vtec change over.
Later when I got the Acura Type R exhaust camshaft installed I noticed (only when slowing down) that the car makes a sound during vtec change over.

is this normal?

How much of a difference do you think those cams made?As far as performance?

I think they gave 6-7hp. I got my car dyno tuned after I got all my mods done.

they should have made more than that after tuning. they make 6-8 whp with NO tuning.

1fastGSR- 15 hp is a nice figure. What is your car running with your current setup? I was thinking fo getting ctr/itr cams but figured i should just get toda's for like 400 more. You make me wanna get itr cams.

I have ITR cams which havent been tuned yet. If I want to up my redline to 8400 should I upgrade my valvetrain or is stock good enough?

i would go ahead and upgrade your valvetrain to ITR specs and Ti retainers if money allows. if you rev it up to 8400 with the stock valvetrain you'll wear down the springs a lot faster and eventually bend a valve or something of the sort.

If you raise the GSR redline you will need to upgrade the valvetrain. Otherwise, if you keep with the stock redline the R cams will run fine.

Did you raise the crossover point with a VTEC controller of some sort? I noticed more of a pull with just the CTR IN cam and no tuning. I'm not totally sure but I thought I noticed a change in sound as well.

I looked at the install procedure and it doesn't look all that hard. I think most people with a decent amount of mechanical experience could do it. Good luck if you decide to do it yourself.

If u are talking about 8400 redline with a reprogged limiter (fuel cutoff), it's ESSENTIAL u get better springs.. If it's a reprogged ecu, no limiter or it's set high, and u have your MSD box or controller controlling the 8400 limiter, then it's a judgment call.. Why do I say it like this? 8400 with a reprogged ecu limiter (fuel cutoff) means 85-8600 r's in first and second.. Ignition controllers will go over, but I've learned up to 400-500 rpms on our typical 200whp setups..

If u like to bounce of the limiter or revmatch alot (freeway entrances, stoplights, circuit) then keep it conservative, imo no more than 8400 on stock springs.. I've heard of 8400 being used without any problems from 2 different gsr hybrid owners, both introduced to after running against them.. On BOTH occassions I thought they had ITRs, but nope.. very nice setup imo

Well, i think it would be wise for me to upgrade to ITR springs then. I want everything to be done properly and if there is a chance that staying with stock springs will cause me problems later on then I'm not going to chance it. Thanks for the help guys.

I installed mine. very easy to do.
CTR cam = waste of money. Just get some used ITR cams.
The cams were my best mod for the money, even before tuning.
