Default squeaky alt belt.

My alt belt squeeks sometimes when its cold out. Then when i hit around 3-4k its super loud and i can smell burning ruber like when im doing a brake stand (but not so much) but same smell.

Im thinking the belt is too tight, now much play should there be, or up and down movement?

Thanks.

Yeah i can flip it 180 degrees max.

The belt shows no signs of cracking or wear.

Can i use wheel bearing grease? Or clear dielectric grease as belt lube?

I think what speed_racer means is "belt dressing"

It is kind of a sticky substance and messy as hell..
I think any type of lubricant will just make it worse..
If it is slipping already, and you grease it up,it will probably slip more.

mmmm belt dressing sounds good. Back on topic, just tighten your alternator belt, don't by any of those lubricants.
