Have you guys ever heard of this?!?!?!
I took my car (1997 Prelude base, H22A manual) to honda cause it was smoking. I though, F**K I need new vale seals and rings and it only had 74k miles, but I took it in anyway and they said I need new vale seals and rings. So $1200 later my engine is good to go, I thought. It started smoking again (and i mean bad, 4.5 quarts of oil burned in 3k miles) after 5k miles, so I took it back in. Appearantly the rings didn't "sit" right and they tore my block apart. Now Honda is telling me my engine with a lil less than 80 k miles on it is toast on the world's most dependable car. Here's the kicker, they said they would subtract what I already paid to get car fixed the first time to fix it this time. They want to do an entire engine transplant. Has this ever happened to anyone else and, if so, what should I do? Thanks guys.
i think it is nice they are subtracting what you have already paid for your car, and putting it towards the new engine.
how long have you had the car? since new? sounds like the engine wasnt broken in too well, and nothing sat right.

yeah that is really nice usually the honda dealers try and stick it to ya. and check thier price and go to a local import shop and see how much a jdm type s h22 would be and then, go with the cheaper of the 2 and if u get the h22 type just get some credit at the honda place if they are willing to do that.
yeah dont spend an arm and a leg rebuilding your engine use one of the online engine importers and get a 40-50 k mile engine that has been cared for better than most 10 mile cars here --- just a fact most americans trade cars every 18 months on average in japan they tend to keep cars for a lot longer and have better break end periods
Thanks for the quick responses. I got the car with the engine already in need of work. I got it with 72k on it and I got it in the shop at 74k so as u can tell I have no idea what kind of original break in it had. After the work I babied it. It didn't see vtec for 3k miles afterword. I have been looking around and I haven't really seen any good dealers of the H22 type s. I would love to find one, if anyone here has some info it would be much appreciated.
