new here, some b series questions
i dont really know a lot about hondas yet so im just wondering what can be done with this engine in terms of power and efficiency.
how does this sound so far?
ok, a dohc vtec b16 bottom end combined with a b18 head,
(the b16 is from a del sol vtec and the b18 head is from an integra gsr)
is this a good setup to start with?
so heres some questions!!!
-the b16 and b18 have the same bore but the b18 has a longer stroke right?
-the b18 heads should flow more air faster for the added displacement as opposed to the b16 head, it would make sense, more displacement needs more air?
-is the squish area (the area where the pistons meet the top of the cylinder head) for the b16 and b18 heads the same? if the b18 is taller, that would mean that the compression on this specific engine would be lower than a stock b16, creating less power?
-if it is shorter for some reason on the b18, then the compression would be greater meaning that it would have more power than a stock b16?
and for making power, no forced induction of any sort! just straight NA! so what could be done with this engine? and is this any good so far?
That is a good setup to start with -- yes, b18 & b16 share the same bore and b18s have a longer stroke.
As for the cylinder heads do a search, lots of worthless, factless fight articles on the subject of b16a vs b18c
-- That being said, either head will flow nearly the same.
Your next question- do some research, but for your purposes... the head CC difference will raise your compression a little (.3ish?- use CR calc.) , so in essence, ya a bit more power than a factory b16...
What's your budget for the motor? and what do you want?

stock to stock the gsr head out performs the b16a and yes it will raise compression by+.2 if you are planning on doing headwork then either head will do just fine because once they are both fully done the will perform similar
