ITR Rods??
Are the '94+ GSR and ITR connecting rods the same thing? I know the GSR rods are stamped P72 on the bottom of them but are the ITR's as well or do they have P73? And if they are not the same, what are the differences?

To my knowledge, the ITR rods are lighter than GSR, and they have a different method for finding bearing clearance, which is more precise due to half shell sizing.
I've also been told the rod bolts are titanium.. but they didnt spark white when I put one up on a grinder wheel.

They are the same except for the bearing size used for the R vs. GS-R. As Mike stated the R has twice as many bearing sizes for better tollerance selection. If you use GS-R rods on your ITR crank you will need to mic out the sizes to determine your bearing size since the Honda chart won't work. GS-Rs have an ink stamp of 1-4 for their factory journal size and ITR have 21-26. No titanium bolts from the factory. Cranks are the same as well, just different codes for bearing size and greater selection for the ITR part.

Here's pictures of the ones I got from my g/f for X-mas:

In case you can't see it, it says "9 : P72"

They have an 'R' on one side of them - does this indicate they're from an ITR?

If you're doing an allmotor build.. go with Eagle rods.
Unless you can find some ITR rods for real cheap. In that case, use those and install ARP rod bolts.

Well, there are all those people putting retaining clips in factory pistons.
i think its funny personally. But then again, some factory pistons are
a great choice, but factory rods fit them so much better than aftermarket.

When I saw a friend of mine accidently drop a GSR piston from a height of about 3 feet and the skirt cracked all the way to the dome and a chunk of the skirt wall cam off.. That right there made me cringe of the thought of messing with cast pistons.
Messing with them meaning modifying them to accept circlips or trimming them in any way.
Forged pistons are the only way to fly on a good build-up.
But for the budget, CTR pistons are great.. for what they are.

So is what you are saying is if your going to even bother tearing the bottom end down, just go with forged pistons and eagle rods to begin with? I was thinking about some ITR rods and CTR pistons in my GSR, but i might just wait a while and save some more $$ to do it the right way. Whats your take on that?
