Broken rear mount 2 times now... X-member is cracking...
So I've had my B20 swap for a lil over a year now, and I must say I love it. Accpet that Im having a slight issue. The rear motor mount keeps breaking. I have had to have it welded twice. I got the mounts from Camp 1320 and they dont seem to give a rip about my problem. So this last weekend I was in the process of "trying" to swap in my GSR tranny, I noticed that my rear x-member is cracking where the two bolts go in for the rear mount. They are actually cracked pretty good. I dont do hardly any burnouts but it has had its fair share of full throttle shifting. When I floor the car I can slightly feel my shifter move (more so then the stock setup or just the motor flexing). I can also feel the motor swinging at sometimes. Is there anything that I can do to combat this? Would the jimfab x-member help with this at all? Any insight would be great.

Well now that I got Hasport mounts, I have not encountered that problem anymore.

Wait, what kind of clutch do you have? I used to have a 4 puck ACT unsprunged clutch, now I have a 6 puck sprung clutch.

That is one of the problems that many people face when they buy mounts from smaller companies. That sucks for you hope that you are able to resolve your problem.

I have the same problem with my LS swap, Its so bad that it would hit the firewall and that was the only thing stopping the motor from swaying.
Car is currently off the road for the winter the problem will be fixed.

Im using a clutchmasters stg 4. 4 puck clutch sprung. Ive finally gotten used to using it. It took quite a while tho. It hardly ever sees anything past 7k, stock head/bottom end. Where is this 4th mount that you speak of? It definetly needs one.

is it difficult to remove the rear cross member? and is it ok to leave the engine on the other three mounts while replacing the rear cross member?
thanks again

Hmm, I've seen this problem before and someone had posted a link to a japanese company which had a stronger quality steel x member, was around ~$200 if I remember correctly.. Maybe you could find a metal fab shop and ask them to fab you something of a higher strength steel. Replacing it with a stock one might just result in a few thousand miles more before the problem arose again. IMO, mod cheap and you will mod twice. - Darrell
