Default Racing Harness Question(Searched)

I searched and came up empty handed, or maybe I am just really bad at it. But anyway, I wanted to buy a racing harness for my car because the seatbelt thing didn't really bolt up right with my racing seat rails. Since I dont wanna die if i crash or anything I figured on of these would help. But anyway, hers my question, do you need one of those bars behind the seat to tie connect the belt to? because everyone ive seen with a harness wraps it around those bars you kow? anyway someone let me know. thanks guys

Are you saying you want a harness but don't have a roll cage (or even know what it's called)?

yeah, Im asking if you need to have the cage thing for a harness. Cause if you doo I'll just figure something else out, but if you dont need the cage I'd like to know how you set it up, my seat's made for a 5point harness btw ( sparco Ultra )

You defently don't know how to use the search function.

Just a week or two ago, RJ. posted pics of the lil tab that needs to be fab'd up to attach the stock seat belt to the bucket seat.

and there is maybe 20 or more threads that all state harness are stupid and dangerous to wear for daily driving, IF you do want harness the majority of us will suggest you should get a Roll bar. If not if you do roll, the harness is just going to hold you *** right in place for the roof to come crushing down and snap you neck.

to add to that there are also threads on how to mount a harness correctly, and if you go to the simpson website or to the Crow enterpize website they both also have info on how to correctly mount a harness

Pretty much everyone in here is going to tell you that if you use a harness without a cage you're asking to die. If your car rolls over and you're strapped in with a harness, the only thing to keep the roof from crushing in is your head. You probably don't want that.

Yep, a search should turn up a lot of info on this subject.

I'll chime in on this though. I get tired of all the "you're going to die if you wear a harness without a rollbar" threads. Please be a bit more specific when you make that blanket statement. If you go to an autocross, you'll see many drivers wearing harnesses. Are these people risking death? IMHO, no. The gain in car control far outways the inherent risk.

Using them on the street and track is often debated here on H-T and other forums. I'd personally say NOT to use them on the street because they are generally a pain to use, and unless you are wearing a DOT approved belt, it's probably illegal.

For the track, it's a little trickier to decide whether to use them without rollover protection. Many experts will disagree with what you read on these forums about getting your spine or head crushed. In a rollover that is usually not the most likely thing that will happen. Gain in car control from using the harness might just override any risks, but that is up to the driver to decide. Many respected companies like Sparco and Brey-Krause make harness bars and I don't think they are making these for the bling crowd, they are being purchased by people who want to use harnesses without having to install a rollbar/cage in their street car.

Anyways, just thought I would try and correct that blanket statement of "you're going to die if you use a harness without rollover protection". It really depends on where and how the belts are being used. I think we've all turned into the safety police here in the States.

Ok tanks your the only one who has really been any help. I think I'll just stick with the seatbelt fabrication thing, seems like a way better fit for my application, thanks though !

What seat brackets did you get? Most of them have provisions to bolt the female seat belt receptical directly to it. This is what I did in our Civic project car which is sometimes driven to events. The Corbeau bracket/slider has an attachment point for the seat belt receptical. I simply un-bolted the seat belt receptical from the factory bracket/slider and bolted it to the Corbeau bracket/slider. If you don't have that, could you maybe have a shop weld on something to bolt your seat belt to? Just an idea.
