1/4 mile times-worst ive ever heard of for Type-R-first time at track
hey, some might remember me probably not though.. I went to the track, and wow, i suck at launching, shifting, basically everything on the track (compared to street). Somebody please post advice that would directly help what im doing wrong based on trap, ET, and 60 ft or whatever..Here are my times:
first run ever:
R/T .984
60' 2.783
330 7.349
1/8 10.778
MPH 72.18
1000 13.659
1/4 16.085
MPH 92.13 (CRAZY WHEEL HOP ALL OVER)
second run:
R/T .825
60' 2.511
330 6.757
1/8 10.146
MPH 72.93
1000 13.019
1/4 15.439
MPH 93.49
final run:
R/T .679
60' 2.577
330 6.789
1/8 10.203
MPH 72.04
1000 13.097
1/4 15.530
MPH 91.84
i have to say i am dissapointed as i expected to run a high 14 at least once. i am aware that my launches sucked, i revved to a little over 5k and when i let the clutch up slow the revs dropped to about 4 which sucks. i need help, i am an embarrassment to the Type-R. PS STOCK TIRES re010 good condition, compression read about a year ago 238 all across, and almost hit 30,000 miles and scheduled for valve adjustment/new spark plugs/service with acura next week. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Practice my friend, just practice. It's nothing to be embarassed about at all....kay maybe a lil bit. J/K.
Your times aren't too horrible. I'm by no means an expert but your 60 ft times could def go down into the 2.2-2.3 territory. Try lowering your tires pressures, you didn't indicate what you were running, and continue slipping the clutch as it seeemd the best for me. You mph seems pretty low though. I can't remember for sure but I think I ran 97-98 mph with header/axle back.
haha yes it is very embarrasing. if i were to launch the car at 5.5K-6K and let the clutch out slow while pressing the gas to hold RPM steady would that help the launch? also, when shifting, it seems that went i slam gears i spin hard, how should i shift for optimal performance?
actually, so ur all aware, i read honda-tech day in and out and searched about everything so far..i just never actually got to the track...the MPH that i expected was 94-96 is what i usually see/hear about the R...last question...lets say i lowered my 60 foot to about 2.3, which is 2 tenths better than my 2.5...would my 1/4 time go down further tenths due to higher speed?

i "kick shift" ... it's simply done by kicking the clutch down fast enough that you can shift while it is depressed. you get your clutch foot ready, let go gas, kick the clutch down, and at that moment, shift before your foot goes up again, and gas it.. it takes practice to do what i do, and you only have about half a second to shift. but if you can do it, youll run around 14.25. but im sure everyone has their own methods. good luck

Do j00 even own an ITR? What makes j00 proclaim such "estimates?"
*curious*

just go out somewhere with no one around and practice launching, it can make all the difference in your 1/4 mile time
yes i understand the kick shift concept, i actually am a former "street racing" idiot, and i learned how to shift real fast doing so...my concern is that what kind of spin/chirp/hop should i expect when shifting to 2nd, 3rd..i got excited and slammed 2nd and started to spin so i had to let off the gas and get back on it which wasted alot of time im sure *that was on my best run-so i am confused if this might be a good thing because of a 2nd gear mini launch shift, or a waste of time...i love the R and i want to be able to drive it right. thanks.
it all comes in practice man . cant expect the first time to be the best. dont get discouraged
practice launching on street?--but the track is rubber, so its totally different, am i right?? ive heard that tires will grab alot harder on the track, but why do they spin/hop so much more than street?
i ask all of these questions cuz u guys kick *** when it comes to the R. i wish i knew more than i do, but ive been learning over the past year+..i appreciate the advice i am recieving.

yes launching on the track and the street are totally different.
but it all boils down to knowing what the car likes and how it reacts to diff situations, surfaces, temperatures and such.
Trust me I have hundreds of runs under my belt for my R alone.

Have you driven an ITR on a real race track?

No I have not.... but he bought his car to do what he wants to with it... Some people enjoy different things.
ITR is a track car, handling is supreme and suspension is stiff...nice 24.9!! my freind with a gsr i/h/e/cfhood ran a 21.? lol yes i will practice on the street to improve my launching abilities! i just hate burning my tires away. any RPM launching advice, or shift tactics?
