New to the forums and I am having problems with my idle after i put a header on my SOHC civic. I could only put one of the two O2 sensors back in because the header did not have a place for both???? Just wondering what i should do to fix this, make a hole for the second O2 sensor or what??? the idle is at 2200 when i start then when it warms up drops to 300-500 rpm range??? can i get some help from someone???

 

you need to have both sensors. one in the header and one near the cat. do you have a cat?

I'm surprised that without the 2nd sensor you don't have any CEL's

 

did you switch over to an ex b-pipe and cat setup? Or did you just put the header on w/ the lx b-pipe? (Im guessing not)

 

Well, it's not that big of a deal to leave one unplugged, as long as it's not the primary one! The upper one needs to stay plugged in as it meters your a/f ratio. The second one measures the health of the converter, which you apparently no longer have so putting the second sensor just anywhere in the piping won't help you.

I have a 98 DX with header also, I just left unplugged the second one and live with the light on. Performance is fine though. If you can't take the light being in, do like was said above...put EX cat & midpipe in, or a REAL quality aftermarket cat with sensor bung in it. If you don't have an exhaust yet, get one for an EX and get an EX cat it will all fit in nicely.

I agree with everything except the aftermarket cat. I've yet to see a single one that hasn't destoryed itself within a year.

I don't mean the cheap crappy ones like those all over on Ebay, you might as well put a test pipe in instead of those. Get a name brand like Random Tech or Carsound, Catco, something that actually is CARB legal as a replacement. You pay for them but they work, have warranties, and still flow good.

thanks for all the help, i got a new sensor and that helped the idle stay higher. Is there a way to trick the second sensor (after the cat) to make it work besides drilling into the exhaust? if so let me know
