How often do you pass 8500 rpm?
Other night, there was this kid was driving a modified Civic hatchback, keeps on following me, wants to race me so bad... after 5 mins it really pisses me off so I couldn't control myself no more.
I was going 70mph on the highway in 5th, then i shifted to 4th, step hard on the gas, RPM goes to 9000, that point he was way behind... But I heard a weird sound, it was my first time hitting pass the redline, i felt bad...
I heard Type R's engine is meant to be beaten. is it true. I using mobile 1 syn oil if that helps.

The car runs normal, I am going to oil change it this weekend. it looks pretty dirty.

what rev limiter?
I am pretty sure there is no rev limiter, just a fuel cut off. Stock stats say its like 8600 i believe, but as someone else said, it varies because of the tach.
To prove my case of no rev limiter, how do you think guys blow their motor by mis shifting? They hit 11k + and bye bye motor. So if they can hit that high, there would be no rev limiter before that.

Not true.
There is a rev limiter. However, it only works when you're accelerating within a gear. When you are changing gears (downshifting, whether that's what you intended to do or not), the rev limiter doesn't work. This is the way most cars work, not just the ITR.

No ****? Hmmm, where is the rev limiter set at? You said its the same thing as fuel cutoff? GSR's sit there and bounce it off the limiter, but uh...mine just keeps going...up past 9500...weird...

You are refering to a mechanical over-rev, no ECU can prevent that.

As others have noted, the tach may not be totally accurate. It works somewhere around 8500-8600 actual RPM, but the tach may indicate as high as 9000 before it kicks in, particularly if you're hard on the gas.

It sounds like maybe your ECU has been replaced to remove the rev limiter. I would be VERY concerned about that. The rev limiter protects your engine against damage. If you can past 9500 indicated on the tach, you could easily damage your engine. And that can become VERY expensive. (That's why they call those accidental downshifts that result in overrevving the "money shift".)

Exactly...
The rpm is the mark for the fuel cutoff which will keep the car from accelerating higher in that gear. It can be bypassed with a computer addition (VAFC, FIELD, etc). The sound is very different until you get used to it
Downshifting is a mechanical mistake & cutting fuel certainly wouldn't keep a misshift from screwing the engine.

Well, when i am hard on the gas, i've been up near 9500 before i hit the next gear. Granted the tach may be off, but my ECU is stock...So i've been told. Weird. Anything else that could be it?

I'm assuming your not the original owner. My bet is your ecu is not stock.
Theres no way the tach could be off that much. Vtec kicks in around 6k for you right?

Most or all? I'm curious if there are any cars that can stop a mechanical over rev.

Your tach isnt too off then. Your revlimiter should kick in just past redline.

So people here are saying that if you bounce of the rev limiter/fuel cutoff it's okay???
I was always under the impression that you are leaning out your cylinders by bouncing off the fuel cut set at 8600rpm.
Maybe I heard wrong??

you probably bounced at 9k, when you'll get used to shifting 9k in 4th, you'll be fast enough to use the limiter bounce to shift it into 5th at the right moment, hehehe that is if you like abusive driving
if you're racing, i see no point in hitting the rev limiter. only the advanced drivers will notice a difference in the extra 300 rpm. when i autocross, i usually just shift at around 8400k.
i do it to hit 120 mph in 4rth without having to switch to 5th and to hear it rip
it's just music to your hears and i never had a problem doing it! i usually shift at 8-8.5k at the track too...
