The short answer is that there isn't a "best" oil to run in your car, but there are a lot of high quality motor oils you can choose from. You can't go wrong as long as you change your oil and filter at regular intervals. The best protection oil you can run is synthetic. The next best to that if you're on a budget is a Synthetic blend, and then last is conventional oil. You should be running 5w30 for best all round protection and fuel economy based on your geographic location. Brands are pretty much the same as far as quality goes...choose a good brand and you'll be fine.

Agreed.
I personally Prefer 10W30 Castol Syntec or Mobil 1

5w30 sounds about right for NY. I used to run 20w50 in a turbocharged honda that I ran a few years ago, but a boosted car is subjected to much more heat than a near stock z6.

. True, but it also cures the slight oil burning that my 250,000+ mile engine has: something I can't say for the full synthetic or Durablend that I've experimented with. It just runs better with Maxlife because that's what Maxlife is supposed to do - help recondition old seals and burn off more slowly.
I won't say it's better than any other high-mileage oil, but I''m going to use it until I find something better.
