Default My zc dyno results

Did my first dyno run in my zc powered crx today and i want to see what u guys think of the results. I was pretty pleased with the turn out

What i have done
89 crx si w/ dohc zc motor
91 si tranny with exedy clutch (sweet) and ACT 8lb flywheel
chikira header, custom 2 1/4 exhaust, hiflow cat, cheapo intake w/ KN filter
pg7 ecu (89 integra)

Results
Max Power - 112.3 @6800 rpm
Max Torque - 101.5 @5600 rpm
that was a 4 gear run, i thought it was pretty good and the motor burns a little oil too. The motor is rated at 130hp from factory so thats only about a 15hp loss threw the tranny which is really good, the thing that suprised me the most was mph. in 4th gear at 6800 i was at 121mph. and that was the dyno reading not the speedo (honda speedo's arnt that accurate past 100mph) so zc's top end is pretty good

My friend also ran his 93 civic hatch w/ ls swap and a b16 tranny and he put out 125hp to the wheels and 115lbs of torque

so do any of u guys have some zc readings to compare??

Good results, I got 115 Hp and 99 ft-lb from my dohc zc. 3rd gear run.

I'm going to port the head and get a set of crespo cams. That should put me over 140 Hp.

damn those ls numbers are horrible, whoever wastes money on a zc is stupid.....you can get a b16 and do the same things to it and it smashes those hp numbers.....

how can you say that a zc is waste of money, its a cheap motor and can put out some good numbers if it is built right. Its only obvious that a b16 with the same mods is gonna make more power but a b16 also cost a lot more money, and you have to put that into consideration. a lot of people just like d-series engines, i know i do.

yelowcrx13 keep up the good work

You play your cards right and you could get a ZC running as good as or better than a B16 with the the 2500-3000 dollars you spent on a B16 and not have to wait for the VTEC pause.

Isn't this the whole Honda mantra, taking a little motor like the ZC and seeing how much power we can squeeze out of it? Not everyone likes to take the easy route and splurge on the B-Series motors, so to the haters.

I had a similar setup to yours...blacktop ZC with a PG7, DC header, stock airbox/catback. IIRC, I got 111hp/100ft/lb on a 3rd gear run (could've been 4th gear...can't remember...too long ago).

atleast someone knows what there talking about. my lil bro is beating b16s with his mpfi'd dx motor and a y8 motor. why spend the money on the b16 when i can get a d to go just as fast?

Good #s for such little mods. Hows the 8lb flywheel? The zex 6lb looks alittle too light, the loss of weight must affect the inertia alot.

Could you elaborate on this? - Darrell

I LOVE MY 8LB FLYWHEEL U CAN FEEL THE CAR PULL A LOT HARDER IN THE POWERBAND, I WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMEND IT. AND I THINK 6LBS MIGHT BE A LITTLE TOO LIGHT, SOME PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME 8LBS IS TOO LIGHT (SCREW THEM)

my ZC puts out 113/101 on the stock exhaust manifold, running not enough timing, and i have walked ever single B16 hatch or CRX that has tried to race me. a B16 has what, 3 more lb-ft of torque from the factory than a ZC? plus you dont have to wait for VTEC for the torque either.

gear ratios+torque>you.

Not bad. Put out just as much as my old a6 with exhaust.

I had a lot of problems with the crespo cams. First off they have/had no cam sensor slot in the exhaust cam. Secondly no matter how I adjusted the cam gears and checked and checked and checked the cam timing. I sold them and got DELTA regrinds and am very happy with the results for half the price.

those are good numbers for the amount of money and mods you have invested

dont listen to the people that believe that b series is the only route, there are other ways to make power.

keep up the good work.

those look like great numbers... what kinda dyno cause it seems kinda conservative. my new A6 just put down 106.1hp @ 7k (and it was still climbing).... fresh bottom end, custom 2.5 exhaust, +6 degrees on the cam, AEM CAI.... but it was a dynopack 3000.... next i'm rebuilding the spare head with a exospeed cam, ferra valves, some kind of spring and retainer.... and p&P.... and i'm tossing ZC pistons into the A6.... it should be a real nasty motor set up.
