So you take the temp on the sticker and add xxamount or are you just going for a rough estimate that will be off from what the fluid temp is going to be?

thats a pretty good idea, but what would the deviation be from the temp of the case relative to the fluid temp.

local Nascar shop.

rough estimate = oil is about the same temp as the pan is since it is so thin.
the sticker has a 'rough' resolution so it is not that accurate.

who knows.
all I know is the oil is hotter than a m0-f0 after one easy track day at VIR-S.
a hard 3-day weekend at C.M.P. would = oil death.

sorry to jack your thread, but i had a question about oil comsumption. my car constantly eats up a tremendous amount of oil in short periods of time and i was curious what you guys would consider to be "normal" in terms of quarts of oil consumed.

when i took my car in and they checked it, they said that i was within the boundaries of "normal consumption." i will withhold the amount to see what you guys say first. thanks

one qt. every 2000 miles seems to be the Acura limit.

I have burnt a qt. in one weekend of track driving.
[track weekend = ~110miles per tank x 2 days = ~220-->250 miles. ]

I feel so lucky when I see posts like that.

My ITR has gone through entire track weekends without consuming a drop.

Ross, I want your engine. Wanna trade?
As for temps, 250 degrees F does seem pretty high. And here I thought the ITR was designed to run cooler...

It's like the disposable thermometers the school nurse had when I was growing up. Those weren't oily though.

Why does it seem high?

RJ - burns maybe 1/2 qt per weekend (8-10 sessions).

Just hearing from some other people with oil temp gauges, 250 was on the high side. My opinion is based solely on their cars and their opinions though, so I could very well be mistaken.

i guess for you ignorance is bliss

I've only gotten my oil to 220 ish, on track, I definitely need an oil cooler, cuz my water and oil temperatures differ by A LOT

I noticed on friend's cars that have VTEC, the oil temp is considerably higher

I have a setrab oil cooler laying around that I will install, I just want to install a canton filter, and add a thermostat

I wouldn't bother with an oil thermostat. It's yet one more place for an oil leak, and if the thing malfunctions for any reason j00 could get stuck with no oil circulation.

<----still a street car

don't u think the oil would get "too cold" w/o a thermostat
