Can someone explain what I just saw?
A little background first.
It was a new model (99-01 I guess) Maxima with a fast and furious rear wing, aftermarket rims and the inevidable yellow decals down the side of the door.
Anway, I looked at the rear brake setup and it was something I have never seen before. It looked like a chrome/silver-colored drum brake BUT, it was not a drum, I am sure of it. It was cross-drilled and the outer rim of the 'drum' (which was flat an slighlty curved, not rigid like a rear drum) had a little caliper sitting on top. It makes perfect sense as to how it works, but I have just never seen this setup before. I dont know these cars (even the base model) to have rear drums. The single pad would simply sit inside that downward facing caliper and make contact with the rounded top of that 'drum'. What the hell is this brake system?
