Hey, my 1990 crx dx has a ZC motor swap, and its still in the shop because for some reason its smoking BAD. Everytime you push the gas it moves then stops then moves. The smoke that is coming out is VERY rich, and when i say smokes it comes out in HUGE black SMOKE BOMBS(You cant even see out the window! Its gas not oil.). The code was saying the o2 sensor is bad, we replaced that and its not helping. I have also read that the Teg ECU's make the ZC run rich, but that rich? So in overall for some reason the car is geting flooded. Someone please help me it would be very helpfull! thanks

-o2 Sensor
-TW sensor

 

There is no way in hell an LS ECU is going to make your car run that rich. I have that ECU and my car ran fine, just backfired a bit now and then. Have you done a compression test? Is the CAS(Crank Angle Sensor) correctly installed? It was only throwing one code and it was for 02? Specify more plz. - Darrell

 

The only thing i know is the motor was running in a crx si for 2 months, he took it out, b/c he wanted more speed, the motor was fine, it sat for 6 months and is just now being cracked again. Maby sitting for 6 months has something to do with it? maby some sensors are bad? Please help me with some info, i need the car back. thanks

The car would run untill the plugs foul(proble). IT puffs out the biggest black smoke bomb u could amagine. The car has been driven about 1/4 mile down the road and it ran, just not good at all. When u pushed the gas about 25% it would go to about 5-10MPH then almost stall out then go back again, then stall out(but not cut off) then go again. I gusse kinda like the RPMS just drop then come back again im gussing b/c its so rich. When driving it down the road it proble wouldnt go over 30 mph and just have a bunch of black smoke ROLL out of the car! Anyone with info PLEASE help im at desperate stakes. Thanks

Okay, here's my .02. Gotta be something fuel related. Did you swap over the fuel rail and injectors when you put this motor in? Did you swap over the existing FPR? Did you change your fuel pump? It almost sounds to me like the swap you got had bigger injectors if you changed over to them. My car did the same thing when it was super rich because of my E-Manage. I could run it at less than 50% throttle, and then if I'd press it any more, the car would buck and try to stall out.

EDIT: Have you checked the timing or pulled the valve cover?

 

fuel rail and injectors are from the ZC motor, we did a pressure test for the FPR, its good! no we didnt change the fuel pump. The car wont run at 50% throttle. Just if u rev it BIG i mean HUGE puffs of BLACK smoke comes out, u cant even see out the back window! We just checked the timing, it was off by a couple of teeth, and fixed that, still didnt fix! and no i havent taken off the valve cover, im sure the "Tech" who put my motor in has.

Edit: Imagine the Biggest smoke coming out of an exhaust pipe possible and thats what it does. Use your imagination Skills
