Roll cage painting question..
Those of you who painted your own cages and brush painted them, how did you make sure to paint where the tubes are pretty much right up against the car? Or did you just get as much as possible.. I'm not really trying to paint the entire inside, and even if I was, some of those spaces are pretty tight..
If you paint it the same color as your interior, then you don't have to worry about getting paint on places you don't want. You can just jam the brush into all the tight spaces. That's what I did.
i just did this on saturday.
for the tight places i taped off the car and tried to get it best i can.
small brush with a good deal of paint works rather well.
OOOO ya were a hat or somthing, i kept on getting paint in my hair when i was trying to inspect tight spots, the stuff i used doesn't come out of hair that well either.
Jimmy- who will be wearing a hate for the next 2 week or so

well, since the inside of the car varys between white and grey, that's not much of an option.. nor would i spend the money to colormatch even if it was one color..
newspaper, eh? so simple it just might work! thanks david..

so nobody had any worries about not covering it all, leaving the potential for rust?

i'm actually considering pulling the dash out anyway to ensure that one doesn't rust.. and after i read about how much of a PIA it was for people to spray, i decided against it..

I worried, so I used a foam brush then crammed it in the tight spots which then squeezed out paint from the brush drenching the area.

The foam brush ROCKED for the tight, hard to reach areas, like the bottom outside of the main hoop, and close to the A-pillar. Kinda like painting sideways; you can get the flat surface of the side quite a bit deeper than a regular chip brush.

good call.. got the first coat of primer on last night.. fortunately, I used white and it matches up pretty well to the interior color of the car, so it blends right in and allowed me to worry less about hitting the sides of the car and such.. I'm going to do a 2nd coat of either more white prime or a gloss white when i get back in town next week..
foam brush was definitely the way to go..
thanks for all the tips!!

I just used painters plastic ($10 for a roll so big I don't think you could use it in an entire lifetime) and $2.50x4 for wal-mart gold spraypaint. It wasn't too bad really....
Btw, this isn't a road racing cage so don't jump on me about how it isn't legal for this or legal for that, etc

I just masked the **** out of the inside and the outside of the car and sprayed away. I used a Sata Mini Jet. The only thing taken out was the carpet, seats and front and rear windshield.

Who did your cage?
Who did your cage?
Travis did the cage. I believe Jensen might have worked on it too. The quality is awesome. The cage is really, really tight to the interior.
