Default transmission questions

possible repost, but search yielded nothing...

what is the code of the stock 5spd tranny in my ej8? also, anyone know this tranny's gear ratios and final drive? i'm wondering how similar it is to the L3 tranny (not sure if that is the correct tranny code though)..

thanks

sup anf. .

i know your motor is shot, but is it still under the hood? the code for your tranny should be on the tranny itself

as for gear ratios and FD, i've never seen specs for a d-series tranny on the net, only b-series... but then agian i've also never searched it lol

The serial number starts with S40.....

But that wont tell you the difference of a non-vtec vs. vtec tranny.

The Y8 tranny will have a K4F code on the housing.

VTEC model trannies have the code "B000" inscribed on a flat spot, non-VTEC has "A000" etched in. I can't remember exactly where the spot is at though...

EX tranny

S40
P20 B0000

this P20 B0000 is printed (embossed) in the circle near the filler plug...

Gear ratios:
1st - 3.250
2nd - 1.900
3rd - 1.250
4th - 0.909
5th - 0.750 or 0.702
Final Drive---4.250

I think that's it...

I swapped out an old d15 from my 92 dx and put in a d16z6. I used the same tranny and it worked great was killing little celica's left and right. Sorry I couldn't help with your serial # ?S
