Car won't shift - syncros? tranmission? Strange issue.
I have a 97 LX Acura Integra hatchback.
The car is a manual and when I shift its really stiff. The clutch feels ok but the actual stick shifter is really tight and sometimes it won't shift at all. When this happens I have to turn the car off pump the clutch ten times and then when I turn it on it will shift again. Eventually the stick will get tighter and tighter until it wont push anymore and then I have to repeat the process.
It's not a problem engaging the clutch itself. That's still smooth. It's actually pushing the stick in the gear box (or whatever you call it) that is causing a problem. I made sure that the clutch pedal is all the way in every time, and I have been driving a manual for years now so I don't think it's anything I've been doing.
I don't think its debris thats stuck inside the gear box or anything like that. It almost like something isn't being engaged so when I push the clutch pedal in it wont let me move the shifter.
I don't know much about cars, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea before I took it into a shop.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well I cant push the stick into gear. I don't even get a chance to let the clutch out because I can't push the stick. It grinds sometimes.
I thought when the clutch breaks that it slips when the stick is already pushed into place. Does a broken clutch make it so you can't even push the stick up? It wont push into *any* gear when this happens. It will only go into neutral.

Its your clutch. Turn your car off and shift into gears. IF it shifts smoothly into gears I guarantee its ur clutch. Well lets say more your pilot bearing. I assume your MS isnt leaking. Stop trying to shift if you havent had the problem resolved. Consider the age of the clutch. You can get just your pilot bearing replaced but thats pointless unless money is an issue. Get it all replaced and resurface your fly wheel and your golden. Good luck

Agreed. If you keep trying that "turn car off n pump clutch pedal and it will be ok" stuff then you are just gonna make things worse. No noise tho?...other than grinding? Get a good clutch and you will see if that is the problem. I was just having a shifting problem a couple months ago on my 95 LS so the shop said it was probably the clutch. So what I did was go to ClutchMasters n got a Stage3. When they take your OLD clutch out inspect it n the pressure plate and pilot bearing. My car had the following probs... clutch scraping against pressure plate towards the middle, shot pilot bearing, damn spring fell out in clutch LOL . Anyways get it checked out ...DONT BE STUPID n screw it up more like i did hehe.
